Cast

Film description

Appearing on a TV show, a pretty girl, owning a cloths outlet, fast money and getting high - Requiem for a Dream is a review of suburban aspirations. A son and a mother are both addicted - to drugs in his case and slimming pills in hers. Gradually, they are losing control over their lives.

Darren Aronofsky's second film earned him the admiration of cinema lovers and ensured him a place in the history of cinema. We watch creativeness in all aspects - from deformed images (objectives, filters), to acting (Ellen Burstyn, nominated for an Oscar), to sound and music (hallucinations and hypnotic recurrences). Requiem for a Dream is undoubtedly one of the greatest editing achievements of recent decades in several aspects. The most obvious one is the dynamics, music video-like rhythm with accelerations, decelerations and overlapping motifs. Another hallmark of Aronofsky's work is the repeating and differentiation of editing sequences (taking drugs and pills) and dividing the screen. The form is determined by more and more densely entangled parallel stories and the impressive culmination of the finale. All this corresponds to the film's content - it is designed to show addiction as an ever-mutating, although repetitive disease of specifically increasing tendency.
