Film description

Unmoved Mover caused a stir in the media for an entirely non-artistic reason, when the director resolved to withdraw his film ostentatiously from the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. Thus, Barczyk started a stiff debate over the concept of the festival. This controversy pushed aside the issue of the artistic value of the film itself. And yet Unmoved Mover is equally provocative as the filmmaker's ostentatious gesture. Even the opening scene with desecration of the sacramental bread introduces the audience to a world, where all fundamental moral values are undermined, to the world of sin, pain and suffering. But the film's uniqueness does not lie in its message. Unmoved Mover is astonishing mainly because of the way of presenting its story, at moments reminiscent of reading Kafka or of a nightmare. Images express here the concept of 'fear', as defined by Antoni Kępiński, anxiety with no particular external cause. The hyperemotional attitudes of the characters, discontinuous narrative, a feeling of entrapment even enhance the anxiety, combine into a vision of the untamed world where nobody can feel at home. This is the world of the director Łukasz Barczyk, who himself admitted: Yes, this film should hurt.
