Film description
Joe Strummer was the legendary vocalist of the legendary band The Clash, one of the most important groups of British punk rock or - more broadly - of the British contestation tradition.Julien Temple, director of the film about Joe Strummer is in turn the legendary chronicler of the musical counter-culture from Great Britain. It's enough to mention his documentaries about the Sex Pistols, The Kinks or about Glastonbury festival and his film starring David Bowie. Temple has also made music videos for Bowie, Culture Club and Blur. His interest in the leader of The Clash comes as no surprise then. Joe Strummer's life was a struggle and music was his weapon. This is why Temple's documentary is not an ordinary portrait of an extraordinary musician; this is a story about believing in change, in rebellion that could affect society. Moreover, this is not only a film about Strummer, but for him, too. Temple does not hide his personal attitude to the musician's uncompromising attitude. His film is equally involved and passionate.
