Film description

The documentary by Mariusz Malinowski is probably a reaction to the stir in the media caused in 2005 by the information that the grandfather of Donald Tusk served in the Wehrmacht during WWII. This might even be the reason why the leader of the Civic Platform lost the presidential elections then. Malinowski wants his film to be a knife dividing pages in the book of history that got stuck together. He takes his camera to Silesia, where Poles were regularly forced to join the German army. In this journey, the director is guided by Alojzy Lysko, one of the 'Wehrmacht children' mentioned in the title. His father was killed while fighting on the Nazis' side against his own will. Malinowski's work should be basically interpreted as a story about the national identity which was not destroyed even by the meanders of history. The film is also a confirmation of the often forgotten common wisdom that what you see depends on where you are. What can be seen by someone as a gun to eliminate political opponents may in fact be a hidden drama. It's good that there is still someone ready to talk about it.
